Welcome to the SOUTHBOUND Imprint, which has been specifically launched to capture and celebrate our southern African resources—our cultural and ecological heritage. With the launch in October 2006 of the World Heritage Sites of South Africa series, seven colourful, compact pocket guides with all you need to know on the sites, we took a decision that our heritage is so unique, so diverse, and so special that it warranted an imprint of its own.
And already the imprint is growing, with some exciting titles lined up , including The Baobab Book, a glossy pictorial coffee-table production that traces the anatomy and history, the myths, and uses of this legendary giant. Also coming is A Field Guide to the Waterberg, a comprehensive guide book being developed in conjunction with the Field Guides Association of South Africa; and A Novice’s Guide to Kilimanjaro, a collaborative effort between climbers and safari operators.
The South African Bushveld - a field guide from the Waterberg
This is the first comprehensive photographic field guide to be published in South Africa that covers a cross-section of the most prominent animals, plants, birds, insects and tracks and signs of a particular region. It includes a detailed natural history section for a greater understanding of the people, geology, habitats and ecology of the Bushveld.
The Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape + Namaqualand
In the far northwestern corner of South Africa lies the Richtersveld, recently inscribed towards the end of 2007 as South Africa’s 8th World Heritage Site. At first glance, it is a desolate and inhospitable place, with hot sandy plains and startling, jagged mountains of black rock. It is the world’s only biodiversity hotspot located in an arid region
Okavango
After The South African Bushveld—A Field Guide from the Waterberg, this is the second comprehensive field guide to be published in southern Africa that covers a comprehensive cross-section of the most prominent animals, plants, birds, fish, insects and tracks and signs of a particular region. It includes a detailed natural history section for a greater understanding of the people, plus geology, habitats and ecology of the region. This book negates the need to carry more than one guide book when visiting the Okavango.

Whale-watching in South Africa—one of the most exciting activities in some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. The South African Whale Route stretches from Paternoster/Saldanha Bay on the West Coast (Atlantic), south around the Cape of Good Hope, and some 2,500 kilometres northeast to Kosi Bay in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (St. Lucia), a World Heritage Site, just south of the Mozambican border on the Indian Ocean.
Swaziland
Discover the Kingdom of the Reed Dance
The kingdom of Swaziland is a friendly, compact and enchanting country to visit. Its landscapes range from dramatic mountain peaks to deep river valleys, from lush rolling hills to evocative bushveld plains. Add to this a thriving cultural heartbeat, a traditional monarchy going back hundreds of years and a proud national identity, and you have a really special vacation destination.
