SWAPO Strike

SWAPO Strike

Zimmerman’s epic work captures the thud of SAAF Mirages in action against a SWAPO force. Operating from Oshakati and Ondangwa, combat air patrols [CAPS] were consistently flown by Mirage F1AZ’s,  escorted by CZ’s in an attempt to locate and destroy enemy armor. These Mirage F1’s avoid climbing back to an altitude after destroying enemy armor as the hot exhausts from the climbing Mirages make excellent targets for heat seeking SAM missiles. Often Mirage F1CZ’s were employed in ground attack roles.
